Biographies

Simon McBeath has been a professional freelance writer and photographer since 1994, specialising in motorsport technology and illustrating many of his own articles and books (www.sm-designs.co.uk). But he has been involved in photography since childhood when his father taught him how to use the family Ilford Sportsman 35mm camera, in which the usual fodder was Agfa 50 ASA transparency film. So shutter speeds and F-stops became familiar at an early age! Many cameras down the road, much of Simon's work-related photography has been largely 'documentary' in nature although his role as press officer for his local motorsport venue, Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb (www.gurstondown.org), has generated thousands of action photos too. But much of his satisfaction comes from the photographic expeditions made with wife Tracey in the UK and abroad, or even just in the garden or countryside around their rural home in central southern England.

Tracey Inglis bought her first SLR camera when she was a teenager and she also majored on motorsport initially. But it was after meeting Simon and the pair started travelling together that she developed her interest in photographing places and landscapes. Like so many photographers Tracey is caught up in the conundrum - to use film or digital? She retains a film SLR so that her ultimate preference for high quality transparency film can be indulged from time to time. Tracey's photos have also been published in books, magazines and web sites she has designed for clients (www.cougardesign.co.uk).
